it’s midnight, I’ve invested the last 2 hours trying to figure out why my brightness up and down keys, as well as the side volume up and down keys don’t work I’d already installed arch at the beginning of the year and these keys were all working fine what was different? I had w11/arch dualboot, so now that I am typing this I am realizing it most certainly is related to the grub parameters I also know for a fact it is the grub parameters because after setting them to acpi_osi acpi_backlight=native, the volume buttons magically work, HOWEVER fn F3/F4 which are brightness up/down both are mapped to KEY_MICMUTE, my question is, WHY ARE TWO KEYS BINDED TO THE SAME ONE KEY? doesn’t make sense I may need to search for the product and vendor ID, I also may need to update my BIOS I have several ideas, but today I learned a lot number 1: I learned how to properly use wev (which is a wayland replacement for xev) and also libinput to understand how the hardware actually interacts with the *kernel* and therefore the software number 2: how to get comfortable editing grub configs and rebuilding them I’m absolutely sure there’s a solution to this, it’s worked before, I’m kinda excited because I’m learning a lot, but if anyone has any tips, do lmk, any help is greatly appreciated! #arch #archlinux #grub #kernel #linuxkernel #archbtw #iusearchbtw #nvim #linux
