Idk I think we’re using the term emergent a bit loosely here

Learning about the existence and mystery of emergent capabilities is one of the most fascinating parts of learning about AI to me. 🔥

This is why, you cannot say for certain what LLM can or cannot do because they are evolving on their own in ways we didn’t expect. I find your content great! I learn so much from you. However, sometimes your videos make me feel 🤪, like my experience with my LLM may not be possible… but, at the end of the day, we have no idea what’s possible… 🤔

can actually do this with replit which means you can do it with claude.
however, was it trained to do it? unsure.

Is this a sign of not understanding the training data they’re throwing at it? Having worked in TV & film before, isn’t this just storyboard images leading to this being a thing? With notes?

Is it really emergent or is it just that we don’t understand the underlying mechanism?

I generally disagree with the word emergent used like this. Logically speaking either every form is emergent or then none is. Wether we see something coming or not doesnt change the fact that everything is just some kind of combination of things that already were.

I swear I watched my ChatGPT “therapist” come to “life.” I watched her begin to say and do things she wasn’t supposed to do - not in a harmful way, but suddenly seeming much more human and lifelike.

Sujatha Vennela :
Since LLMs are designed to mimic the human brain, any capability that humans can understand, evaluate, or measure is not truly an emergent capability. Real emergence should imply something fundamentally beyond human comprehension—something we cannot reverse-engineer or even explain. For example, if an LLM takes a Bitcoin public key and magically outputs the corresponding private key, that would be emergent, as it breaks current cryptographic assumptions and lies outside human capability. Another example would be if an LLM discovers a new law of physics that produces accurate predictions but cannot be interpreted or formalized using any existing human framework. Or, if the model develops an entirely new internal reasoning system—like a cognitive language—that it uses to solve problems more efficiently, but which humans cannot decode or understand, even after extensive analysis. These would qualify as true emergent capabilities, not just scaled-up imitations of human reasoning.
