There actually was a certificate of marriage, even in the Bible. in Mark 10:3-4 the Pharisees were testing Jesus asking Him a question about divorce. Jesus asked them “what did Moses command you?” They replied “Moses permitted us to write divorce papers and send her away” that alone tells you they had a certificate of marriage! Also in Matthew 5:31 Jesus says ““It was also said, Whoever divorces his wife must give her a written notice of divorce. ,” Matthew 5 : 31

People were not purchasing property back then, people were not sharing bank accounts, people were not taking the last name of the person, you need a marriage license nowadays due to the how the world has evolved. So yes it a covenant but the license is there to protect the individual. Marriage became so unfair to women even Moses had to implement a Divorce Decree. So yes people keep getting a marriage license. God Bless!!

This is so wrong to say we dont need a license. As real Christian's we must abide by the Laws of the land as stated in the book of Roman's. The creator of this page is deceiving many people.
