diesels have a longer stroke than most petrol which helped it make more torque as well as it being able to burn longer

why diesels have so much torque is because diesel is more energy dense than gasoline so one detonation of fuel generates more power driving down the pistons hence giving them a lot of torque. this is multiplyed with turbos because they supply diesels with much more air so they get more burning of the fuel. NA diesels are quite weak and slow
