one of the craziest travel stories in my life 🫠 as we rushed into the airport, our first glance showed no lines at the check-in desk, and our initial thought was, “did we miss our flight?” but relief set in when a staff member approached us, letting us know we were just 10 minutes late for check-in. we’d checked in online, which should’ve made it a breeze. or so we thought... 🙃 the catch? they couldn’t take our luggage at this point because it was ✨too late✨. you can imagine our shock :) the lady presented us with 2 choices: abandon our suitcases there and take off with only what we had on us or buy new tickets for a flight two days later. the 2nd option was out of the question – i wasn’t about to miss a single second of this trip!! BUT how could we leave our stuff? our destination is notoriously chilly, so we invested in layers, boots, jackets, you name it. (not to mention my personal heartbreak: my entire skincare and makeup bag lol) first seconds were freezing, but then we realized that overthinking would only waste more time, so we started piling on clothes like there was no tomorrow lol. i ended up wearing jeans, a skirt, a dress, 3 sweaters, 2 jackets, 2 hats, and a scarf — talk about toasty 🙃 suddenly, the same woman who’d informed us about the dilemma switched to ukrainian (!) and suggested packing some of our stuff into garbage bags and taking them as carry-ons. we packed as much as we could but obv our luggage was still half full of our belongings. and then kind souls come into play!! this ukrainian lady agreed to keep our luggage while we are away, for us to collect it later!! we met her just 5 minutes ago!! 🥹 btw, her name is “vera,” which translates to “belief” in english. symbolic, right? :) the result: the most layered outfit ever, 2 garbage bags with some of our stuff, a half-packed suitcase with our belongings left with a lady we met 5 minutes ago. and also a funny story to recall, an extra line for our resumes under “quick problem-solving skills,” and the heartwarming knowledge that kindness is alive and well. so… welcome to ICELAND!🥹
