@millennialrx: Pharmacist reveals why a prescription may be more expensive at the pharmacy. #pharmacist #pharmacy #pharmacytechnician #healthinsurance #millennialrx
it is not the pharmacy . it is the insurance companies. the government needs to regulate insurance companies.

Dr. Ethan Melillo, PharmD :
Honestly I think the whole deductible thing is a scam and it’s crazy that you pay for an insurance and need to pay more to this insurance to then start getting coverage.

My daughter is becoming a pharmacist. She works at a hospital pharmacy as a tech so she can get experience. She had a patient who had to pay $498 for a 90 day supply of insulin because her deductible wasn’t met yet. This was back in February. The patient started crying because she was $150 short. My little girl found all these coupons & discount cards to get the cost down to a reasonable $45 for her patient.

With my insurance, name brands is $50-$150 (if it's a covered drug. and not all are covered) and generics are $25-$50. I take the generic for Losartan.. using my insurance it would be $25 for 30 tabs.. but i use Amazon Pharmacy, don't enter my insurance info and pay $9 for a 90 day supply. Insurance is a rip off when it comes to most Rx meds.

10000% I’m a tech and it is definitely frustrating that patients blame us/get upset with us because of their insurance plan but $75 for fluoxetine is insanity 😭

This is a rare instance and people need to understand their insurance.

That’s why I love my pharmacy. If something I take is cheaper cash price then it is with my insurance, then they have me pay the cash price.

I understand the deductible, the question is why is the medicine priced at $75 instead of $8 or $20 or whatever- again the patient pays all of it until the deductible is met?

Walgreens pays roughly $5 for 30 tablets of rosuvastatin 40mg…Walgreens charges over $400 for a 90 count, it isn’t just a deductible problem.

Took me 6 months to meet my deductible. At least going forward it’s 0$ for the rest of the year .

Cash price for Fluoxetine 10mg capsules #90 is roughly $78 at Walgreens. More than likely the patient doesn't have insurance or the insurance doesn't cover a 3 month supply. Mark up at a pharmacy is going to be higher because that's how they make their money. If this doctor can sell medication at such deep discounts, it's because she's making her money to keep her office running(rent/utilities/employee compensation) in other ways.

These “healthcare providers” need to work in a pharmacy for at least a day to get a clue

My thoughts on this video started with since when did providers start ordering medications and dispensing them? Is this not the US?

crazy because in the UK it’s a flat rate of £9.90 (around ~$12) no matter what the quantity is

Medication costs are unreal. I’m on Vyvanse and the generic is over $200/month. Name brand is over $350/month. 😭 Im so thankful I can afford it, because I know how miserable I feel when I’m not on it

At a retail pharmacy we have a “cash price”. Never pay that. This is a fake inflated price we tell insurance so they advertise how much they are saving you. Always use a discount program, either instore’s program or goodrx. We can’t make that the default price because contract law.

My DPC doctor fills my husband’s for one YEAR for $18 total. Through our insurance we paid $25 per month co-pay. Cash pay was $15 per month. It’s ridiculous.
