They had travel ball back then, it was All Star teams. You had to qualify to be good enough to be chosen. The traveling wasn’t as crazy as it used to be now, though.

Shit, I played little league for one year in '84, my parents we never there but for one game AND THE FIELD WAS LITERALLY ACROSS THE STREET!!!

I played on select soccer teams that traveled in the 80s. We went 2-3 hours away for tournaments. We played baseball against local teams in rec ball and traveled for school ball.
