Guess I'm confused. The energy (including heat) from the sun reaches Earth in about 8 minutes and 20 seconds. This is the same amount of time it takes for light to travel from the sun to our planet, as heat is primarily transmitted through electromagnetic radiation, which travels at the speed of light.

It is not quite like that the nuclear reactions in the sun's centre produce gamma rays which are similar to x-rays, these bounce around in the centre of the sun and become converted to heat which eventually reaches the suns surface and produces the light which reaches the earth after about 8 minutes. The sun's centre is at 15 million degrees whereas the sun's surface it's only about 6,000 degrees
