Everyone in the hood doesn’t steal and I’m sure they don’t want to be associated with that

A lot of black culture/pop culture that we enjoy is from the “hood.” It’s crazy how people wanna distant themselves from “THOSE BLACKS” when you love what comes from it

This is an interesting take because when black southern people are proud of their southern heritage y’all drag us.

Yeah while I didn’t agree with his take, they have come out the gates with elitist talking points. Literally watched someone say “my parents cared, I didn’t struggle” like bruh, you sound absurd

i have def seen a lot of elitism but also a lot of people who are just saying i grew up middle class or higher and did indeed rock RL in school that wasn’t stolen, suddenly that is being dismissed and invalidated as well. they’re are plenty of ppl pushing the hood away but they’re are plenty of ppl who are willing to embrace it but are also being pushed away bc they don’t necessarily know how to engage

No one is “forgetting the hood” we see it every day. It is how the majority of the world sees us. What we need to get people used to is seeing something OTHER than “the hood”. Why people are uncomfortable about that is beyond me.

Its not distancing, Ive lived in both, Ive experienced both. My cousins who grew up with a Doctor/Nasa Engineer as parents who went to MV, Nantucket and Aspen would never know what's its like to be "from the hood" we've tried to tell them how it is but they'll never truly know that experience.

I’ve seen 5011 videos on missing salon culture. The people that came in the salons to sell things where do people think those items came from? So now ppl never stole or supported boosters. Ok. 👌🏾

The black experience isn’t monolithic… all experience count … I’m from the hood .. I never stole a day in my life … I’m getting my PhD I will never forget where I came from … but that story needs to be told as well ! The hood hasn’t been forgotten… because ooo

The hood or black middle class neighborhoods are the epicenter of black culture and I think a lot of people get upset with that they are in the elite Black class because when it comes to fashion language and culture it comes from those areas and that's where the most authentic art and experiences usually come from. when you see people that are in J&J or D9, the music, the fashion, and the culture come from those areas that they love.

I mean yeah it’s elitism🤷♀️I don’t want to be compared to those type of people. I want to be around black people just like me. Every race is like this.

I think the problem is — it’s completely acceptable to bang on Black upper middle class folks, call them white-washed, bougie, snobby as joke and fodder. Literally no one cares about the way the culture at large puts down upper class blacks, but the hood stories are to be revered, respected, told and celebrated — and those not of it are made to feel less black for not identifying with that experience.
