Same thing happened to me the other day. Shot three rolls. And they delivered first roll and last roll perfectly fine. I think labs are getting overloaded and slipping. Still. Could have been me though.

If it’s film from Pro 8 I’ve had this happen sooo many times, finally switched labs. If it’s black then it probably hasn’t been exposed at all, and is probably an issue with the actual roll not advancing?

Absolutely not, this wasn’t user error. I’d actually bet money on that. A WHOLE black roll??? That’s a developing error. Especially if the 2nd roll wasn’t damaged in use or transit.

This happened to me a couple times when I switched to a new camera. The strip was coming loose when I advanced it before I even started shooting. Not sure if this is helpful or not but I am SO careful to make sure it’s advancing correctly now.

If I had two rolls come back blank and they said I loaded it incorrectly, is it possible the lab messed it up?? I just don’t understand how I loaded all the other ones right

Makes me think, a hd video tap with something like a video assist recording proxies would be handy but of course that takes away from the whole experience of shooting film

This just happened to me too, and I pushed back when I called the lab, because I have never had an issue with this specific camera I used, a WHOLE blank roll is very rare actually. And they finally owned up to they might have caused it but wouldn’t tell me exactly how. 🥺 the convo with the clients is soooo hard too!

This exact happened to me at TH in town, when I went to get the negatives to try to see what happened they couldn’t find the negatives anywhere 🤨👀

I’ve had this happen to me with Pro 8mm a few times. It was advancing the film like normal. I still don’t know what is wrong, but I’m guessing something malfunctioning with the auto exposure. I just ended up buying another camera and that solved it.

The lot of us musicians and record producers feel your pain - we went (and some of us still go) through similar pains with analog tape (when we can find it - it’s scarcer than gold these days).

3 rolls of my wedding film was black, tested the camera before and it was perfect. We got two clips of my wife and some family and the rest of the wedding was black. So bummed. Good chance it was user error but still hurts.

I develop my own film but in the few cases where I do send off my film I don't trust the bigger commercial labs to really take care of my film. I would rather go to the smaller individually run labs like darkslide or Harvey's. I really hope I can get the capital to start my own lab at some point as well. people really need reliable labs all around the country

What’s the neg look like, if there is nothing on the roll including the gap between the frames the whole roll has been exposed. Also Have a look at the processed roll for marks. Did you fly and place your film in the hold case ?
