Honestly, video games can be more emotional than films, and are just as much a form of art as books, films, music etc. In games, you directly engage with the narrative, instead of just observing it. Some games rip your heart out. I’ve sobbed about characters a lot, and from songs without the narrative behind it as well. A lot of endings for BG3, for example, can be gut-wrenching. Also, OP was emotionally vulnerable and his gf jumped to accusations and attacking him for it. And whilst I haven’t played FF7, I am aware of at least one gut punch that game throws at you. Yeah, if I had a partner who doesn’t usually cry over media cry over a piece of media, I would be worried, but wouldn’t think they’re crying because they’re into the character, but would worry that something else is going on. And if a partner pulled that on me…I would drop them immediately. But she did apologise and explained it. I still probably wouldn’t trust the partner myself after something like that but…well. It sorted itself out and things were figured out, so all’s well that ends well I guess
