I survived the darkness they want us to hide. I was 4 the first time. I was scolded while the two teenage boys were simply told to go outside and play. I was terrified. I didn’t understand why I was in trouble or what happened. I was 9 the second time I scolded again. I was called a home-wrecking whoo-rah who ruined her life and stole her man. No one protected me. That was the moment I realized my body didn’t belong to me. Men could do whatever they wanted, and I would always be the one to pay the price. I never told on anyone again. By the time I was 14i had been with someone for two whole yrs and I was forced to marry him, a 20 yr old man. And even now, at 47, I’m still not supposed to talk about it. I’ve been warned that if I keep speaking up, if I keep telling the truth, there will be consequences. I'm risking everything every time I leave this comment.
