At the end of the day, they had 400+ years to claim us. They spent decades telling us we are NOT you and telling us “YOU’re black Americans” you are not US. We want nothing to do with you.” From the continent of Africa, the Carribean, all the way over to the UK, We no Black, we are NOT you, we hate you, you’re lazy, you don’t do this, you don’t have that, you’ve never done this or that…THIS is what was said to us and the whole time, smiling in our faces. We STILL claimed you as dstant family and thought we were in this war against bigotry against us, as one. We THOUGHT we were sharing cultural ideas in music, language, dress, etc but got accused of “colonizing YOU! We’ve been called a lot of things but a COLONIZER by people who share the same SKIN TONES as us..THAT SHYT BLEW ME AWAY. We stayed welcoming and inviting and never gate kept anything. We always extended that branch of cookouts to family from abroad but unfortunately, the truth of all of this came out and the intentions were exposed and it was deeply hurtful. It was just as hurtful when we had to come to the realization that even the brown wasn’t down for us. We’ve had to accept these things and let them be what they are. We still don’t hate, we just give what we’ve been getting but were too blinded by solidarity, that wasn’t there, to see it.
