It’s my understanding that music occupies a different part of the brain than speech or maybe even memory and that’s why it is helpful in therapeutic settings, or autistic nonverbal people who won’t speak, but they will sing along to a song.

my great grandmother had had dementia and she could remember all the words to all the songs from when she was little like has anybody seen my girl, Alice blue gown, and I can't remember any other

When my mom’s grandpa had dementia she would visits him and play and sing different hymns for him and he’d always remember the hymns even when he couldn’t remember her

I have three daughters and nine grandchildren and every Christmas we watch white Christmas and sing the songs in that movie. Sisters is one of our favorite songs in the movie. Keep on going grandma!
