I've never heard anyone in a pawn shop talk about "the labor" lol😂 Price is figured out by gram and condition.

Based on current gold per gram cost, what should we expect to be a reasonable upcharge from that cost??

Tried negotiating with a guy through fb that worked at a jewelry store and he told me they don’t sell gold by the gram… that’s when I knew it was time to move on 🤣

Used to work in a pawn shop. We buy gold/silver at a percentage of weight value. Maybe more if it’s something we know will move quick. Nothing is “new.” However we don’t just sell it at gold weight. But it will always be cheaper (and usually by a lot) than new. Ex I sold a ring that I knew sold for 50k new for 15k. Chains that were bought for 5k for 1k. Gold earrings that were 300+ for 80. And there’s always haggle room. Most places price high cuz they assume ppl will haggle down. Silver is where the big mark up is. Average silver ring is maybe a few bucks in weight. Sell them for $20-50 all day cuz ppl spent hundreds on them in a jewelry store.

Well duh obviously it’s going to be used if it’s being sold in a pawn shop. 🙄 More important questions when buying a gold chain are “how many carats” and “is it solid gold or plated”

They always show you their “new gold” and sell it to you a 10k and a 14k used price.

when pawn shops Buy gold or silver they pay at best the standard melt weight for the item. they don't pay for it being made or even if it is a brand name they pay whatever the gold content is per the weight of it and then they Jack the price up

EVERYTHING at the pawn shop is used. If you try to go in there with somthing brand new, still wrapped up, unopened 95% of the time they won’t take it. It doesn’t matter who it’s for, but the quality of the craftsmanship of the chain. So labor is included

to find the best Deal. ask if it was lost in pawn, or if it was bought out right. if it was bought then it was bought based off of gold weight and the karat... give or take a few dollars if it was lost in pawn then depending on the customer that lost it, it can be pretty close to sale price and won't have much wiggle room.
