From a writing standpoint one of the things that makes this whole thing seem so extra is all the additional anecdotes, like specifying what his countertop is made of and that he's waiting for a different one to be ready. It bogs down the entire sequence with information that would come across as pointless and trivial, the kind of stuff an editor would tell you to leave out, but in this case serves to show that Patrick Bateman is not only methodical but obsessive about what he chooses to give his attention to, in this case himself.

his routine is nuts but some of us really do use an exfoliating every day. I used st I've apricot scrub every dy si ce I was 16 un til like 5 years ago. that's like 20 years. I am 43 and people still say I look 28. key is moisturize.

it's interesting that the wall of text is used to obfuscate the way that he's over exfoliating but the text also reinforces that he buys into the claims of the products so intensely that he's just repeating ad copy

15... that is how many products just for his face. 30 products he mentions at some point that he currently uses/going to be adding in to this routine. He list more products in his morning routine that I have in my whole bathroom which includes hair dye and makeup.
