The discourse behind the Ralph Lauren collection just reminds me that I will always carry the opinion that a lot of Black-Americans carry a lingering effect from the Transatlantic Slave Trade & the Antebellum South era. It's the effect that came from the version of Christianity that was intentionally fed to the enslaved. It is that black people--in particular, Black-Americans--should be all-knowing, morally-fit and self-sacrificing for the greater good. I saw this acted out in several activist, social circles and amongst "woke," black people. According to them, Black-American people should be disgusted with the idea of America's version of personal financial freedom/security. If we want to be financially secured, then we should only achieve middle-class status. For the upper-class, they should "give back" to the lower-class black communities.

there were generationally wealthy black ppl who didn't have college educations or go to Jack n Jill and I think its lost on them that some middle class and above black people didn't relate to them.

This whole is getting out of hand— We should be focusing on how the main brand related to curating Americana is highlighting our community and history at a time when our heritage and contributions are under attack

well the first guy said Black people were stealing because they couldn't afford it. I think we need to have a full circle conversation about it. because that was so odd. I really don't even understand why anyone was bothered by the collection to begin with. it's lovely. if you don't like it, move on. ugh.

I think there is two different demographics being mixed together honestly. There are the ones they came from nothing and have a degree or two now, that act like they ain't never had anything before and they BELIVE that they are elite although they are not,and they are the ones being condescending because they have a amex. Then there are the actual elites who has had money and degrees for generations, whom I don't believe is participating in this conversation at all. Two different groups of people, the demographic Ralph Loren targeted in that advertisement is above participating in this conversation openly.

This is the conversation I’ve been waiting for. The fact that some are still obsessing over brand aesthetics—while ignoring the wealth of the elites who actually benefit from capitalism—is wild. Luxury, at this point, is just a well-dressed gimmick. Overpriced goods packaged as status, while the real power stays hidden.

It’s about the university you attend, not about the degrees. Harvard, Yale, brown, Cornell white grads are the same way to white people. People will rep their prestigious schools, I don’t see a problem. They worked hard 🤷🏾♀️

its ok to wear ralph lauren and feel represented by it. i understand their cry about being underrepresented in black media, but the lines are being blurred into classism and its sick but somehow expected
