@chumbawah: This storytime is actually insane and I’m still not over it 😭 I was in first grade, just a little kid doing my best, when a substitute teacher SCREAMED at me in front of the whole class—because I wrote “gooses” instead of “geese.” Like… I was SIX. I barely even knew what geese were. And she went off. I remember sitting there completely frozen while she yelled at me over one word like I had committed a crime or something. But here’s where it gets worse. This same substitute teacher ended up getting FIRED—because she HIT one of my classmates. Yep. She got so angry at another little first grader that she physically hit them. At school. In a classroom. I remember everyone just sitting in complete shock, not even knowing what to do. I carried that memory with me for years. For the longest time I was afraid of asking questions in class or messing up, because I thought I’d get screamed at again.
