Every single author could be problematic if you dig deep enough. Authors should not be held to some vague higher moral ground than anyone else. Writing is their career not their whole life. Do you research every actor? Do you research every tv or movie producer and then refuse to watch what they put out?

The trans community asked me to boycott HP so I've been boycotting it ever since 🫡 like there's so many other fandoms I can go play in, it's not that hard. As long as JK is alive and supporting bigotry, I will not participate or fund her.

Genuine question on this. I watched all the HP movies as a kid and never read the books but always wanted too. I got them second hand from a coworker for free and I'd love to read them still but is that still supporting the author? I didn't purchase them at all and I don't stream the movies anymore but I've always wanted to see the differences from the books to the movies.

i was such a huge fan, i wrote ff starring me and my childhood bff. i haven't touched the books that I've physically owned for over a decade (or 3) because she's icky. she can't make a dime off me and she won't waste my precious reading time anymore.

the last book my great grandmother gave me before she died was the 6th Harry Potter book when it was first released.......do I still have it? yes......do I read it? no. I keep it to remember a nice thing my great grandmother did but I have it on a shelf labeled "never read again, author is horrible person". I've got twilight and Stephen King on that shelf with her.

YEP! you cannot separate it if they are actively using their profits to harm others. my mother bought me a HP shirt from walmart for my birthday last year… i wear it to clean or color my hair. i was so excited to share the books with my child since it started my love of reading & had even purchased the first 2 illustrated editions before everything happened. haven’t purchased another one, won’t stream any HP movie, won’t go to universal, and won’t purchase any merch. it’s the *least* i can do in this situation. if i miss HP, i will read fanfic which usually has better character development & storylines anyway.

I don't do research to anyone. I read books i want. I watch movies i want. there is bad people every where but why should I stop enjoy things just because I don't agree with them. like church as have bad people a lot of time in them yet i don't think people stop going to them because they can still find good. Just my take though.

I’m not going to stop regardless. You can cancel ANYTHING. Anything. There’s probably someone HORRIBLE profiting and donating to Trump thanks to something you’re wearing right now. “I’m not platforming authors who are icky” I’m like 900% sure no canceled author needs your/anyone’s platform atp, they’re massive authors regardless of cancelation.

It’s the white conservative women screaming they’re being cancelled and bullied because they feel like they can’t talk about what they love (HP) anymore and it’s hurting their little feelings. They all read the same 3-4 fricken books and think they’d be the main character 🙄
