Everything was going very well over the fence and from her meeting Lugos just minutes before this, Calavera wanted in with them so from previous experiences with introducing horses it seemed like a no brainer but WOW did it surprise us! Though looking back on the videos we definitely can see there were signs she was lacking confidence and we should have not put Calavera in there but there is no need to beat ourselves up about a mistake, just learn and move on-we are not all seeing beings. This happened a week ago, Calavera is feeling all better from his bumps bruises scrapes and such. Him and Nekke are okay now visiting through a fence but for his safety being an elderly horse they won't be living together in a pasture. The purpose of sharing this video and explaining it step by step is to show how quickly miscommunication can escalate, how important it is to be there for the first few hours of introducing new horses together, why knowing your horse is important and to share with you where we started with her confidence as we begin to build it up. Horses strike for different reasons and hers was fear related-the fight or flight response was activated. I'm very open to sharing the signs we missed or a polite conversation, suggestions on how to build her confidence and answering questions. Remember, stay polite and if all you do is point your finger and nag at me for doing or seeing something differently than you, you will be blocked.
