plot theory: quaritch seeks out the ash people to form an alliance, later on realises this was a huge mistake as they are essentially just using/playing with him and varang possibly double crosses him - spider somehow gets involved/stumbles upon them (maybe trying to find quaritch) and kiri possibly tags along which ends up in both spider and kiri being kidnapped and held captive by the ash people. quaritch manages to get away and reluctantly seeks out jake for help, offering a temporary peace and alliance to save both their children. (neytiri is very likely against this and possibly almost tries to kill quaritch during this, which brings context to the scene where jake tells neytiri they can't keep living in hate) also small possibility that quaritch sacrifices himself in the end for both spider and kiri to save them

I just realized: In the beginning of the trailer Ronal told Kiri something about helping them right?. We know that kiri and Aywa have this connection where Kiri can use nature to her benefit. When Varang says that “Your goddess has no dominion here” I’m guessing she’s talking about Aywa. In the last movie Kiri helped save characters with that power. So in this movie, the characters might be cooked bc of the different terrain and how limited their supplies might be.
