I had the same thing , lots of clips, bobby pins, using curling product when wet and deadass a haircut. I was growing it out but it helped my confidence beyond measures and it evened it out so it could grow back evenly because I literally had like a half mullet

Look up twists in front of hair on TikTok. I think u could do little sections in the front and just leave the back down and this style will stay in for days if you’ve put enough gel and tie the lil elastics tight enough. Or u don’t even need to twist them u can just slick back the front sections instead of twisting

I wear clips on the sides of my head like in my pfp but I also put the front bits in two little pig tails and sometimes use a "Topsy turvy" to flip my little pigtails inside out(? they lay flatter on my head if I turn them inside out)
