I take care of my husbands 61 year old aunt. I believe she has had alcohol induced dementia since age 54. We didn’t become caregivers for her until age 59. I believe she has entered late stage 5 or early stage 6. She will not take meds I can’t even get her neuro to give me a dx. She has had MRI and mini cogs testing and neuropsych eval. MRI showed severe cerebral atrophy for her age and neuropsych put her at five years or less old.

Seroquel helps my husband tremendously. Helps him fall asleep and stay asleep except to use the bathroom. And helps with some agitation. There not a medicine in the world that helps 100 💯 with agitation. There are good days at times but not all the time.

What would you recommend for behaviors in Alzheimer’s if no antipsychotic meds? I work in long term care and it is difficult to treat behaviors without the antipsychotic and they will be on the namenda and aricept

Namenda is for moderate. Aricept is for mild. Nothing helps the progression. It helps mask the progression. The antipsychotics help extreme behaviors. They have no clue what actually causes it. Talk to a neurologist not a family Dr

Welp- reality is- In moderate to severe dementia sometimes one or some of those meds you said aren’t good absolutely are needed and have benefits.

My korher is 92 and was having delusions terribly. Very bazar. ThenDr didnput her on Seroquel (which I wasn’t happy about) but I have to say it amazingly stopped this. I hate Seroquel but what do you do when the bazaar delusions is negatively affecting her life. My mother has vascular dementia and it is so hard to watch. She has terrible neuropathy too. Some meds that relieve the neuropathy are not good for her mind. Very difficult to
