People assume it's a streamline process, it seldom is. I usually tell ppl I accidentally got my PhD 😅 Same thing happened, the acedemic landscape shifted while enrolled and half way through a study. My options were abandon yrs of work, or PhD.

My brother-in-law got his Master's and PhD in research pharmacology at the same time, then he picked up a JD. He became in great demand at a number of biotech firms, and currently works for the NIH (until either Trump or Kennedy realizes that he's Black). Is he "overachieving", or just achieving?

Academia, man. If I didn’t get into UCLA’s program, I would have done a one year thing at Yale and it would’ve been super expensive and a scramble after that.

Here I thought Dan was already a PhD with books and publications heading for tenure or full professor. Either he’s younger than I assumed or PhD programs in theology are really hard to get into these days

The amount of people I know with multiple degrees because of mistakes, misunderstandings, or just plain being scatterbrained is very high. I got two bachelor degrees simply because I kept switching programs in my six years at university.
