im also disabled and poly and that was really tone deaf and insensitive. like disabled people (on disability) could literally die if they get married bc of how shit the disability laws are. also polyamorous marriage is illegal bc of a long history of religious (men) using polyamory to marry multiple children. These circumstances are DRASTICALLY different, like comparing apples to rocks

istg ive been defending polyamorous people since I found out what it was over a decade ago but the people that are in polyamorous relationships (NOT ALL JUST PERSONAL EXPERIENCE) just make it really hard to defend them I stand with the concept but its like a cool band with crazy fanbase

Polyamory is illegal to protect women. If it’s legal, a lot of it gets used to abuse women in high control religions. On top of that, the protections of marriage are extremely powerful, legal tools, and the government will never give polyamorous people the right to multiple partnerships with those rights until those rights are basically stripped from the concept of marriage.

Also like… correct me if I’m wrong (genuinely) but polyamory is a relationship type, the same way monogamy is, hence the similar words… but people are using it like it’s a sexuality & that they’re as oppressed as LGBTQ people?

No no you’re spot on tho. Cause other people sharing their feelings isn’t the correct time to vent. It’s different if I say “I want marriage equality for everyone” VS “I want marriage equality for disabled people”. There’s a time and a place for every conversation. Sometimes it’s separate.

Polygamy is illegal for good reason. People in their happy poly bubbles are not quite aware that in the vast majority of cases in the US, one husband takes on multiple wives for religious reasons. Wives do not have equal standing in those marriages and both wives and children are at a hugely increased risk of abuse. There is also no legal framework for inheritance, divorce proceedings or custody. This is not at all comparable to the marriage discrimination you face as a disabled person

While yes the government limits access to equal opportunities and rights for both disabled Americans and I guess polyamorous unions. I think polyamorous shouldn't be in the same conversation as disability. And lol "I'm just trying to marry one" 😆 I'm sorry about the situation
