Sooo, the way we “corrected” this with our Border Collie was to put the laser pointer on a treat, he ate it and we turned off the light. He “thinks” he caught it lol. That’s all that matters 😂

This comment section is not taking it seriously enough for me. It gives them an actual compulsive disorder. My friend’s dog had it and he ran in front of cars literally any chance he got bc they’re shiny and the lights. They lived by a highway... RIP Scoob ☹️

There’s medicine available for this. My sisters dog did similar and they got her medicine that helped

Yeah I work in shelters and unfortunately this typically results in euthanasia.. comments need to take it more seriously. It completely demolishes a dogs quality of life. It’s not “tism” or “shizo”. It’s agonizing compulsions.

I’m no vet but what if you got a white frisbee and put a led light of some sort at the bottom to illuminate it mimicking the reflection she’s chasing but since it’s tangible she’ll start correlating it with the frisbee

my rescue dog has this problem too, for her it translates as well into LOVING bubbles because they reflect light but she can catch them 🫧 she still has a reflection problem but is wayyyy less bad than before and can ignore them more often. not sure it translates to all dogs with this problem, but for her bubbles satisfy this and also is her highest value reward hahaha

I acted like I caught it and threw it in the trash. Was still weird about reflections and shadows, but wasn’t actively searching for it.

We fostered a dog like this. We literally had to change our ENTIRE LIVES. No wearing watches. Phones go face DOWN. Windows had to be COVERED. No mirrored or reflective kid toys. Mirrors had to be on the same wall as windows (so no sun could shine on the mirror), but couches had to face the windows (so when you're sitting, your phone isn't hit with sunlight thru the window). We had 2 small children & was pregnant with a really difficult pregnancy. It was hell.

I got a laser for my cat so she could get some zombies out and I sent a vid to my sister. She’s a cat person and Ruby is my first cat so I’m still learning. My sister told me that they are bad because it’s infinite looking for something that they can’t catch. I kind of blew her off until one day after I got done playing with her, I put the laser away and went to pet her and she turned around quickly and bit me. Not hard! It was kinda like she was overstimulated. I felt horrible so I just threw the laser in a drawer and got her a new fishing toy! SO PSA, DO NOT USE SOMETHING THEY CAN NEVER CATCH!

There is a way to solve this. And that's if you can manage to associate the mirror with the game. If they know it ONLY happens when you have that object, they're less likely to think it happens at other times.

Well if we r revealing our mistakes… don’t teach ur dog to get the other dogs on the tv when they r a puppy. 5 years later I cannot watch tv with animals or animal like creatures cause my dog watches the tv for them and goes crazy so much I can’t watch the show. We live and learn not not mess up the next time 🥰
