Did these people EVER travelled with a pet outside uk? You need to get them microchipped, vaccinated and have it cleared for the disease in their passport first. Time needs to pass for dog to enter after having rabies vaccine. Need to have them de warmed. Who’d risk having a dog turned away on the border instead of just following these requirements? That was during EU, now it’s even stricter. RSPCA is killing of animals they care for due to not wanting to spend money on them. People turn their back on them and get needy dogs elsewhere. Hence the “charity” doesn’t earn and could collapse.

We have just adopted a Romanian rescue, but this was from of our local rescue centre in Doncaster already (didn’t go out of our way just met our match) they had already worked with a charity over there and did all the checks / vaccinations / verification etc. I agree people ‘buying’ online is an issue but there a lots of reasons why that need to be addressed, people above have mentioned they couldn’t adopt due to strict rehoming rules so they do need to be addressed, people importing designer dogs or dogs with ears clipped etc need to be stopped!

I have 2 lovely overseas dogs. I got turned away from uk rescues as I worked full time, had an entire male pup who was 9 months old, had cats and kids visiting. I had friends popping in to let my dog out. but that wasnt enough. the media also forgot to say that some UK dogs have Brucellosis but no uk dog is tested for that

We need to make the RSPCA and other uk rescues more accessible. Being denied the ability to adopt because you own intact animals is ridiculous 🤷‍♀️at my local rescue I’m seeing 2-4 month old so many puppies that aren’t allowed to live with kids, cats and dogs. How is THAT logical

UK rescue centres are OVERFLOWING with dogs that need to be rehomed. It is an epidemic. No importing from other countries, no risk of brining in disease.

It’s easier to rescue a dog from abroad than it is in this country, this wouldn’t be an issue if it wasn’t so hard here

As someone that fosters these dogs before finding them a forever home. Reputable rescues (overseas) do NUMEROUS vet visits, vaccines, checks before even be allowed to enter the country. Even then they will have a passport and DEFRA checks once here. It is also up to YOU 🫵 the adopter to do your research on the dog and rescue before choosing to adopt an overseas dog straight from the country. Everyone that rescues knows regardless most rescue dogs (from anywhere even UK) have some issue whether that be adjusting to routine, separation anxiety, house training, maybe even injury or worse things like temperament or aggression. We’ve had 20+ rescues and all are in loving homes ❤️

It’s not a deliveroo for dogs, this is hugely one sided view by bbc. There are SO many well respected charities who follow all rules, dogs have all vaccines and checks before travelling, and full home checks, there are just as many checks if not more then domestic charities. There will always be “bad” charities but you should be doing your own due diligence as well. It would have been great if you could have shown both sides of this. Let’s also not forget so many designer dogs are imported into the uk as puppies and these are dogs known to be bringing in diseases. It’s not just rescues.

I've had 5 dogs from abroad, still have 1. 2 from Romania and 3 from Bosnia. all done through charities. all delivered to my door in Scotland with appropriate paperwork and vaccinations. no problems whatsoever. I guess you have to be careful who you trust. I tried every rescue i could think of in the UK and couldn't rehome a dog for anything because my grandson was young and I worked part time 🤷‍♀️

If you’re wanting a dog get it from where you live !!! I totally get you wanna save a dog from a different country but they’re not our problem. Dogs in BRITAIN are British people’s problem. So adopt from your own country!!

Well uk rescues shouldn’t be so strict and be more realistic then.

Hello 👋 I’m a qualified dog trainer & my husband is a Vet. We couldn’t adopt from UK rescues due to working full time (despite dog walkers & sitters 1-2 times per day in place). This is why we adopted from abroad. We did our research & ensured correct vaccinations & health tests. We met our second dog beforehand (fostered in UK) to ensure the two got along, but I agree it can be very messy if rescues don’t have good protocols in place. We just need to be stricter on health certificates & behavioural assessments.

If UK rescues weren’t so difficult to adopt from then people wouldn’t adopt from abroad as much and there would be fewer issues of full shelters. Adopted all 4 of ours from abroad and would do it over and over again…

What people don’t realise is they think they are amazing people for “rescuing” dogs from abroad but these people do it for money! They aren’t “rescued” they are puppy mills

I know someone importing these illegally also doing illegal c sections, and many other dreadful atrocities, I’ve tried contacting services no one cares. There was a Dalmatian 48 hours from labour dropped off when I was there, ITS STILL HAPPENING

There’s so many that have been mutilated on purpose for a sob story, pretty sure ‘rescues’ have been accused of doing this themselves

The thing is UK rescues are SO hard to rehome from! My fiancè and I are an animal welfare officer and has trained police dogs, own house with private garden (6ft fences), no kids but still got declined on 3 dogs from the UK. I adopted a dog from Greece eventually (I had met him when he was a pup). Maybe the UK rescues need to rethink how tough they are on adopters.

you know who is a problem, the RSPCA. do a survey and see how many people have been rejected help from them. people who have then had to go to other charities, whether in the UK or abroad to adopt or ask for help of an animal in danger. the RSPCA needs to fix themselves before throwing allegations at other charities. 😡

Found my absolute soul dog in Cyprus. It wasn’t easy either - especially with Brexit. She had to have a passport and all her vaccines so this is confusing me
