i remember watching this on A&E in the early 2000s and it genuinely opened my eyes. i grew up in a conservative mormon family and i credit this film as one of the reasons i broke from their beliefs so hard.

seriously interesting to get a peek into that world. it does hit harder as someone from the Bible belt. any follow up with the kids is just as interesting

That sounds absolutely frightening! There’s something so ugly and pessimistic about indoctrinating children to believe they are “born with sin” or that things they do are “sinful” etc. It’s a way to damage little humans.

I cried so hard throughout this movie and I still think about it. I was raised without religion and seeing adults telling children that something’s wrong with them and that they’re wrong for questioning things makes me sick to my stomach. And that this is actually the more common way of life for most people. I was lucky.
