10,000 1975 dollars was roughly 400 billion 2025 dollars, though one 1975 shark is the equivalent of 215 thousand current sharks so it makes sense.

That character holds the movie together. Couldn't be made without him. He's almost a caricature of the most perfect, typical, ideal fisherman. Quint.... essential.

It's definitely not the most famous scene in the film! Indianapolis!

I suspect the first drawing was too good, and someone told the set decorator to make it look like a non-artist drew it.

Actually, I’m thinking the faded one looked too professional like a real artist… the shark looks too realistic… I think they were going for something that’s third grade level… since he’s a blue-collar fisherman and not a artist.. I don’t think we were supposed to see the faded one

My parents(who I belive now wanted to torture my brothers & me) took us to see this movie in 1975. I was 8. I didn’t go swimming that summer.

I like the fact that he’s savvy enough to talk about getting paid to catch the shark in front of a picture of a shark eating a little kid. That some subliminal advertising right there

I remember sitting in my mom's lap while this movie played. She told me over and over that it was a rubber shark. It jumped out of the water and she screamed. All 4 years old of me looked up at my mom and said "Didn't worry it's a rubber shark."

Quint derives from Latin for 5. Quint is also the 5th victim on screen.

I think the erased lines add a sense of motion. The drawing is foreshadowing.

Great scene. There’s no way it’s more famous than the USS Indianapolis monologue though.
