That character holds the movie together. Couldn't be made without him. He's almost a caricature of the most perfect, typical, ideal fisherman. Quint.... essential.

I suspect the first drawing was too good, and someone told the set decorator to make it look like a non-artist drew it.

Actually, I’m thinking the faded one looked too professional like a real artist… the shark looks too realistic… I think they were going for something that’s third grade level… since he’s a blue-collar fisherman and not a artist.. I don’t think we were supposed to see the faded one

My parents(who I belive now wanted to torture my brothers & me) took us to see this movie in 1975. I was 8. I didn’t go swimming that summer.

I remember sitting in my mom's lap while this movie played. She told me over and over that it was a rubber shark. It jumped out of the water and she screamed. All 4 years old of me looked up at my mom and said "Didn't worry it's a rubber shark."
