Honestly, you don’t even have to reboot it most of the time. Get the IT wizard to stand next to you while you show them the problem and it magically fixes itself.

i explain it like navigation. if you know by heart how to drive from your house to the grocery store, you can get there no problem. but if you take a wrong turn and get lost, rebooting is like being teleported back to your house and starting over instead of staying lost

Reboot just delays the need for proper fix. The real cause is usually allocating too much memory, writing outside array boundaries and not freeing allocated memory when not needed anymore.

I remember having an issue so bad that I skipped right past the reboot phase and spent hours trying to fix. Reboot fixed it

Either you've done something wrong or something went wrong by itself, rebooting works in 90% of the cases. For the other 10% admin does something then you could go with a full page of click and commands in powershell, bash, cmd or any prompt, for your computer to digest the new information but just rebooting will do the same. In the end the question isn't about rebooting but when to reboot 😉

It’s taken me 15 years but I have my family trained finally. More than a restart, actually turn it off and back on. It’s like training someone to use Google on a basic level.
