me and my buddies do the same thing but we split it up where each other pick the commanders we use. We use a wheel to spin for what colors we are in then let them pick a commander of those colors.

You can build all 3, play 3 games and see who has a better record at the end of the night. Leads into a little competitive strategy of trying to figure out which you should use for each match

this just sounds like a super fun way to spin to fill in the slots when trying to build for the color challenge as well

You could also pay to have the deck proxied. It’s only like $40 for a whole deck

My friend group does something similar! We call it "Having a cookout", because let him cook. We have a roll a bunch of die and add some together and multiply the others, like a d4 and 4d6 added multiplied by 2d10 and a d20, then we go on EDHrec and look at the top commanders list with a rank that number or higher and choose the "average deck" option. We then copy it and play on Cockatrice!

this but with random commander + the "average deck" from EDHREC and just run it then and there

you should add running the decks through commander spell book and remove any infinite combos for low power

how are you building then playing a deck without spending money or acquiring cards?

Very similar vibe to a commander cube. Drafting 60 card decks + a commander, 4 player pods. We use all types of cards, from power 9, conspiracies, and un cards. Super fun.

chaos magic, you can draw from anyone's deck, all costs are colorless unless it's in the text

It’s the 3 spins and pick one or take a chance on a 4th spin and have to take it no matter what. Tabletop sim is the way to play. I’m probably going to sell most of my decks and keep a couple in case I want to play locally somewhere

My pod and I do commander draft! We have a cube built with staples. It’s great.

What's crazy is I'm working on an app that would go crazy with this idea.

How about you get more spins when you give up commander staples. Like I’ll give up having sol ring in my deck for another spin

Actually did this at a game store - they handed you 3 random commanders, then an hour to paw through their boxes to build decks. It was a blast

The theme really needs to be what solidifies it because anyone could just go the CEDH route and jam whatever tutors and combos into whatever color combinations you got and then the commander doesn't matter especially if you're running black red and or blue lol

okat, here me out. make spin wheels for different game modes (2-headed giant, arch enemy, planechase, etc.) Then, White Elephant style commander draft.

LGS I play at has a league based off of this idea! They call it gumball league (commanders randomly pulled from a gumball type machine) $100 dollar budget as well so nice and affordable

Everyone spins 3 times, all the spins go into a pool, then determine the picking order, pick your 2 favorites
