@viktoriawrites: Here’s how to write characters that haunt the narrative for your horror stories. #writertok #writersoftiktok #horrorwriter #authortok #writingcommunity
Omg I needed this. I have this story that I'm trying to create, basically the MC is haunted by this ghost by someone that used to love them but he didn't love her. He convinced the girl that she ended herself, but she came back as a ghost and she is attached to him. Everyone talks about how sweet she was and how she will be missed. Plot twist: he killed her when she got too obsessive with her unrequited love for him. She finds that out and torments him, but he just seems crazy and in the ended he commits another murder and is sent to a mental ward. He can still be seen muttering to himself. It's sad too because everyone will remember her as an angel, but to him she was - and still is - his worst fear.

One of my WIPs has this. A character that I named 'Grandfather' was someone that was a doctor/scientist in a apocalyptic world with monster infecting humans. The MC was part monster and the GF character tried curing him but died before he could. Throughout the series, the MC would remember his words to 'Remain Human' and would help a new scientist in the main group to find the answers to the infected.

This reminds me of Sauron from LOTR and Vegas from The Family Business series. And Don Corleone from the majority of the first Godfather book

Not the exact same trope, but I have a character that got resurrected, while the fact that they died in the first place haunts their loved ones despite them being "back". It's kind of the extension of the "came back wrong" trope, but, this time, their perspective on life and what they wanted from it had shifted in a more "natural", human way. Though, again, their closest friend, their adoptive parent and sibling, and everyone else who doesn't even get to know they're not dead anymore are still mourning the "different them", shattering any fragile sense of belonging they might've felt to the world around them.

it's dunny that I found this cause I haven't discussed the prime antagonist of my series with you but this is literally how they function because everyone in the town has forgotten them, but the town hasn't

I did this with one of my dead characters. His actions known and unknown shaped so much in the story....

Ooh an interesting example of this is Clarissa Orlando's The September House. The antagonist is only mentioned by name a few times before the deep action

love this, in a project I'm doing with some friends one of them has made a character we all like who haunts the narrative so well, he's died several times and we've exorcised him several time (restarted the project)
he's like a ghost or a fungus with how he keeps to the framework
