@katarinaterentieva: This wasn’t a casting mistake. It was a calculated choice by @American Eagle. #advertising #creativedirector #celebritymarketing #brandstrategy #popculture #fashion #greenscreen
It’s polarizing because of the message - not necessarily the person. They could’ve chosen any blonde, blue eye model and it still wouldn’t be received well. It’s a bad take to say that a company needed messaging like this to turn their financial ship around before catering back to the public that buys from it. 😬 this should not be normalized

I think this is a direct blow to the Levi’s Beyonce campaign of being country and hardworking. They decided this is their time to steal share with the “blue eyed” audience

It’s different when it’s not a blonde blue eyed MAGA. Also it wouldn’t be a “they listened” for another white woman with “great genes”, it would be listening if they released an inclusive follow up campaign that crossed races, ethnicities, ages, body types, and abilities. You seem to have missed the point my dear. The responses you are seeing are not because Sydney doesn’t resonate with people; they’re because there is eugenics messaging more prominently featured in this campaign than the prior ones it’s inspired by and featuring an actress who is connected to a far right white supremacist movement. Missed. The. Plot.

I think it can be two things at once. Being polarizing and grabbing attention and sharing the message. Sabrina carpenters album cover was very polarizing in the times we are in, and the public had that reaction even if she was widely loved. Obviously with Sydney’s recent campaign AE knew she was going to garner attention, but this level of attention would not have come from a regular campaign message. They capitalized on telling this message with someone that people were already paying attention to for negative stuff. And yes to your point it is a brand awareness campaign, AE wants us to know this is the type of brand they are. The political narrative did not go over their heads, it was intentional.

I’m still so confused who they think they’re selling to? She does not have the pull they think she does. We’re talking but that doesn’t translate to a dollar

I think saying any genes are great implies some are bad and I believe in this society we would have an issue anyone in this ad

This went through so many people. The point was to not pick someone who was brunette. The ad is doing its job right now. Its all over the fyp

100% agree. After reading various takes, the messaging behind everything - at the end of day business is business, and any publicity is good publicity if it gets their stock up

You're wrong. If Zendaya was the model it wouldn't seem like the campaign is praising eugenics because it wouldn't reference blue eyes / blue blood - simply the fact that she's beautiful.
