I tried to leave the hospital ( voluntary) and was told my husband’s insurance had to ok my leaving. He had control of when I could leave. That was around 1979. Thank goodness my parents were there for me.

Let's be clear that this will be almost exclusively used to target black and brown people. It will be the children of immigrants they couldn't quite deport, it will be people who live in communities they want to be gentrified. It will also be people who speak out. There will absolutely be medical professionals who will gleefully comply with this process should it proceed. They will try to ignore the process. There absolutely are nurses and others who will turn against some of us, because they center their yt-ness, over anything else. I'm sorry, they aren't rogues. They are many. I think you all outnumber them, but they aren't few.

idk I've worked in the ER behavioral health Wing as a peer support and I have literally watched therapist mock Patience as a form of toxic venting, dismiss patients narrative and lived experiences in lieu of their own biases, and belittle a child suffering from a stance of personal incredibility. there might be a few people that would stand up but from what I saw it wouldn't be as many as I would hope. and as someone with a dissociative issue there's no way I'm doing a 72 hour voluntarily under people in that hospital.
