For punting, no this is 2 steps but on field goals, I teach my one steps with a jab and then plant!

if you want to help strengthen your hip flexor start with your feet shoulder width apart and your kicking leg slightly behind. now drive through the ball of your back foot and throw your off leg forward. use that bag leg drive to carry through contact with the ball. your off leg will pull you forward and then drive up towards the ball. you be activating both legs for the punt not just your swing leg

Since you moved the front foot forward it’s a 2 step. If you stagger and don’t move the front foot it’s a 1 step
