while some mechanics are genuinely bad with this. alot of time it's genuine stuff that would be good for you to get. people don't do anything and then are surprised they hear screeching or their cvt transmission goes out after constant recommendations. and then they try to blame the mechanic for it like we ain't tell them

got new filters. put them in 2 days before I went for oil change. they said they were filthy and needed changed. they failed the honesty test and I won't be going back there

I'm so glad my husband knows how to do most car maintenance stuff. I once got scammed $700 for something when I was in college and didn't know any better. Plus my car felt the same when I drove it home. My dad had to go back and get me a refund 😅

Your owners manual comes with a recommended service schedule, read that then you can see if it’s a scam or not, also some stuff that’s recommended is to protect the tech if something fails causing an accident, remember you share the road with others so please maintain your vehicle to protect everyone

I went in one time and they said my transmission fluid was leaking which it was and I needed to replace it. I tightened the nut myself and till this day it has not leaked ever again

This is why I am so beyond grateful for the shop that I go to. The owner saw his non-English speaking mom get ripped off by several different mechanics, so he learned cars and opened his own business. The shine on his integrity could be seen from space.

That sounds familiar but with my AC unit. Called to get it serviced, ended up having to change the whole system and having to redo all the duct work... I will be paying for it for the next 15 years....

Spend about $60 at Walmart for oil, oil filter, cabin filter, and engine filter. My dealership I work at charges $95 and $110 for both cabin and air filter. And all that money sadly doesn’t even go to the technician. We only get like $10 out of it

I always do my cabin and engine air filters myself. And my wiper blades lol they be charging $60 for labor for a 10 minute or less task lol

Fluids change is technically not recommendation. If you own a car and read your manual, its will explain everything there. You gotta change them. Before 100k.

I like how they recommend the cabin air filter needs to be changed when they don’t even bother looking at it because it’s buried behind my glove box which I know they haven’t even opened because it’s such a huge mess.

Some of them are scammers. I took my car for inspection, the mechanic never tighting my tire bolts when I drove the car it was making so much noise. I was livid, will never go back to that dealer again.
