@careercolin: Celebrity vs community. Why the Ralph Lauren x Oak Bluffs collab won and the American Eagle x Sydney Sweeney campaign struggled #sydneysweeney #ralphlauren #americaneagle #oakbluffs #marthasvineyard
American Eagles campaign was indirectly promoting white supremacy and was targeting a very specific audience

Also I feel like Sydney Sweeney is not popular with women so you’ve already disinterested a good chunk of the audience interested in AE. Zendaya, Margot Robbie, Rosé (the list could’ve gone on) for who would’ve been a better female celebrity imo

I think it’s important to note that AE is a cheaper, non luxury brand. And Ralph Lauren is a luxury brand. This also shows in the quality of clothing. Sydney Sweeney just looks dumpy on top of the odd eugenics and trad wife and pick me messaging. Compared to Oaks Bluff where the clothing looks refined and put together

Well the facts are according to the stock market Sidney Sweeney’s ad made good American $200-$400million in one day. Ralph Lauren there was “No measurable bump reported”. Facts don’t lie your narrative is false wake up people

It feels like a Calvin Klein add, but with jeans. It’s ok, but not original

If AE were dead set on that ad campaign, they should've cast someone like Sailor Brinkley Cook or Kaia Gerber - would've made it a little less about looks and more about building a family legacy in modeling

I think a lot more ppl should research oaks bluff and inkwell. I’m so excited that raph Lauren decided to highlight this part of our history. I got to spend a week there earlier this summer.

What is the problem? Cindy Sweeney is pretty that’s what they meant by jeans. They were using a metaphor. Why is everything racially motivated?

You're spot on with RL. I hadn't seen it until yesterday and now it's all over my feed. Incredibly well done ad campaign, IMO. It's a "new" & different take. AE is same old, same old.

The feeling of community has been effectively dissolved. Yet still, at our core, we desire the strength and support that comes with connection. Ralph Lauren speaks to those places within ourselves that want to feel something deeper. Something more meaningful in life than the false euphoria of our sensationalized society.

Why is nobody complaining about the lack of diversity in the Ralph Lauren ad?

With American Eagle, I think it’s sort of the same strategy as 2015 Trump down the escalator. Say something controversial to get in the news and assume all publicity is good publicity.

Also off topic but the jeans on Sydney didn’t look good and they’re talking abt ur butt will look good butttttt you aren’t seeing much of one from her which is fine but kinda defeats the point of tht comment

Let’s talk about this! :
Ralph Lauren has been a designer since 1967, sued for racial discrimination, and has done nothing for the Black community. He sells us the same clothes our ancestors were forced to wear to fit into European standards and calls it ‘heritage.’ It’s just forced assimilation
