I have a $100/monthly budget to donate as a small business. And if they aren't regular customers, the answer is"Im sorry, I have met my charitable donation budget for the month", unless its the VFD. They always get $$$

I NEVER asked a small business to donate to anything of my kids. I would PURCHASE a gift card from said small business and put that gift card into the fundraiser- usually a gift card raffle or something similar.

My son played all the sports. Fundraising every fkn weekend is exhausting. And in a small town. The community only has so much to pass around and then that money is taken out of town to pay tourney fees and hotel rooms. I would’ve much rather just paid a flat fee and been done with it.

I agree! Everyone signs their kids up and expects to post a calendar on FB asking us to pick a date to donate that much amount of money! If you can’t afford to cover the cost, don’t get mad when others tell you no!

Don’t get me started on all these select teams now. That use to mean something back in the 90’s. Only the best of the best were ask to be on select teams and there weren’t many of them. Then some people figured out how much money was to be made in it. And now everyone’s kid is on a team. As long as your check clears the bank they’re on the team. Then they run around begging for sponsorships to pay and people to buy this and that. Go Fund Me’s any everything else. We need to go back to rec ball. Where you pay $50, get a shirt with the local drugstores name on the front and your parents go to Hibbett and gets you a pair of ball britches and cleats.

We shop small businesses and big businesses in your same small town… I feel like the ones that have supported my child have been the ones we’ve consistently supported in the past… now we ain’t going in there asking for $500 every year either, lol! But, I will say this… I hear a business being announced at my kids games and I will be visiting that business because they supported my child in some way or another… but you are correct it is NOT a small business responsibility to afford my child’s sport, it’s my child’s responsibility to get out there and work for those sponsorship, and no hard feelings if the business can’t or don’t feel they’ve been supported enough by that team to support that team!

I live in a town thats the same, maybe worse. They will go out of their way to NOT support small businesses here. Its ridiculous. But they come begging for money all the time. I flat out tell them no and tell them "when you support my business ill think about supporting you."

It’s similar when schools in our town place their banners on the fences and say “remember who you see up here and support them”. I get the idea but most of the time their kids are the ones playing
