this is what caused americans to start moving to countries in LATAM, because they kept converting everything to USD and they were like omg this is so cheap! and now we have a gentrification problem so bad locals can’t afford to live in their own countries anymore. 😭

Like girl how are you gonna tell me that 1000€/month for a barely decent 1-bedroom apartment is okay or cheap. That’s most of my monthly salary like ???

17,000 for a meal is RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE in korea but $17 for an acai bowl in america is just average price 😭

I've never been sure if it was a perception issue on my part or reality but converting salaries, rent etc from TTD (my currency) to USD and vice versa always blows my mind because either their balling frfr or there's something I'm missing
a DECENT salary here ($7000) is only $1000 there and many people don't get that much so my mind is always blown

I once got into a random "argument" in the comments with someone bcs they said a $9 croissant in Korea was so cheap, I was like ?????? that's not cheap for their wages and they go and tell me this whole story about how they're from California and they pay $20 for a croissant and I was like ???? YOU DON'T HAVE THE SAME WAGESSS

I’ve seen them do videos in the UK and they can’t believe how cheap it is in supermarkets. They seem to forget that for us living in that country it isn’t cheap especially compared our wages. I’m

This is why US military soldiers live like kings and queens here ㅜㅜ they get paid in Us money and usually they don’t have to pay for housing either.

Its because everyone in the world acts like they are better than America and then will say stuff like this and Americans get confused because they have constantly heard that other countries are better and have better economy so they think its cheap in usd then you should be able to afford it too

i’m living in japan and I FEEL THIS. when i convert, i always give people the how much it is to me (the ¥100 is $1 way) cause i’m living here and earn money here. i keep seeing things about “look at this cheap thing in tokyo!” and it’s like over ¥10,000 and i’m like??? that’s over $100 out of my paycheck

To be fair. I always convert all currencies that are not euros to euros so i can relate it to what it would cost in my country. Everything is relative to what you’re used to. E.g. for most people denmark is considered expensive, whereas for norwegians denmark would be much cheaper - it’s all about perspective. By converting it, it’s easier for me to understand how much things abroad cost and if I find it worth to pay that amount for an item. Though I never really say that out loud I just do it for myself so I understand what I’m paying. :)
