I never have any idea who’s gaining the advantage in Ukraine. It feels like every news story or TikTok (not the best source of info ik) alternates between prophesying Ukraine’s approaching victory or its inevitable defeat. Obviously I hope the Russian invasion fails and the war ends but it’s hard to tell whether that’s actually happening.

Well the issue is that these are mere skirmishes compared to the main front around Pokrovsk. Russia is gaining a lot of ground where it matters. The beachead on the other side of the Oskill river is also an issue. I think were all doing a disservice to the sacrifice of the Ukrainan heroes slowing down the advance on these fronts by avoiding the subject. The truth is that if Ukraine can turn the fortune on main fronts, Chassiv yar, Pokrovsk, Kupiyansk. Ukraine just wins the war and Russia will sue for peace. But as long as they make sizeable gains like they are now, Russian moral will remain adequate and improve.

how is pokrovsk not strategically important? it's one of the largest cities in Donetsk oblast and if it falls in conjunction with the other city encircled it would have the way for the full collapse of the oblast

I guess we'll start hearing about MORE Russian oligarchs "falling out of high rise windows" soon. you won't have a fight from those oligarchs if they mysteriously unalive themselves.
