spent 6 months in SK. loved the country and the people, explored many smaller cities besides Seoul/Busan/Jeju, was obsessed with a few dishes there, but yeah imo not the greatest cuisine overall

Korean food is good and I enjoy it but when compared to other Asian cuisines imo it lacks a bit of depth 🙂 you can’t deny that a lot of the same main ingredients (gochujang, gochugaru, sesame oil, ssamjang) are shared in many dishes across Korean cuisine giving it a one dimensional profile

people are weird for comparing korean food to chinese or vietnamese food like it’s some ranking🤨. chinese cuisine is incredibly diverse because of the country’s size and regional variety, and vietnamese food has its own unique flavor profile with lots of herbs, broths, and fresh ingredients. korean food is built around rich, bold flavors, fermented elements, and a strong sense of balance and tradition. all three have their own strengths — it’s not a competition.

I think what people forget most is that EVERY asian food has a unique perk, culture, and history to it. I'll admit that Korean food isn't my favorite, but if I've only been eating Italian or Thai or Indian or Japanese for like 2 months straight, then Korean is definitely what I'm craving.

I agree with some points of the video, but the main point I don’t agree with is needing to like the food to appreciate the culture. I absolutely hate western cuisine and viet food, but it does not mean I don’t appreciate the culture. I’ve spent most of my life in western states and have a viet boyfriend. I appreciate their culture like everyone else, but I think it’s okay to dislike the food.

not like korean food is whatever but dismissing the entire cuisine as being all the same/not diverse/etc is what really pisses me off. or like saying you dont like korean food after trying one thing. the ingredients we use (mostly coming from survival), the ingenuity and creativity that it took to adapt and survive AND ALSO be incredibly healthy (mostly) should be lauded

Korean food is deeply cultural not just traditionally but also in survival. Seeing people disrespect the thousands of years of ancestral wisdom and appreciation for food is just so extremely infuriating and disrespectful, especially when they tried like 3 most famous westernized dishes. Why cant we just have separate nice things without belittling others???
