I definitely a good point and a good point of conversation to educate across racial lines. I had no idea that coloured mid to upper management positions hadn’t grown at all under BEE. I understand why there would be resistance to the party that enacted a policy that doesn’t seem to be benefiting the coloured community the way it should. Thank you for the insight bro I learned something that challenged me today.

If ANY WC resident can't afford their rates and other extra costs in future, they have themselves to blame for voting DA. Homes the young adults cant afford cos foreigners are getting quick approval for residency and buying homes. DA is pro Zio. So I vote for anyone for DA, PA and ACDP who all stand for the same sick principles.

Since you raise this position issue, I want to know who is likely to address these concerns: the DA or the ANC?

within government they tend to employ or transfer a candidate from another province to fill the position, although there are competent people already working within government in western cape!

Back in the late 80's, as a politics student, I learned to undermine the Apartheid classification system by referring to everyone not white as black. Nowadays my thinking is it's too complicated for the average person to think of that toxic system as something we should only use for current affirmative action purposes. What do you think?

It is heartbreaking that we're talking about something that is impacted by systems surrounding race, but we're still not ready to have these conversations without stating caveats around race in the discussion

On a positive note, the scars of apartheid is starting to heal. The day will come when everyone refer to ourselves as South African and not by race. Yes Aff Act was needed, but we are ready for change

My concern is regionalism would mirror apartheid practices majority white areas will have white government leaders, majority Indian will have Indian government leaders and so and so forth, it will functional like the homelands and townships functioned during Apartheid meaning the project of unity and racial integration would be impossible, instead people would segrate themselves according to the areas their race held the most governmental power which essentially is neo-apartheid

Yes you would to answer your question. Western Cape coloureds voted for the tricameral parliament during apartheid. They also voted for the NP in 1994. That they’d return the DA to power isn’t surprising. They march for Palestine and vote for the DA.

Maybe unrelated, but I also think the perception that certain organisations only employ if one is a certain race discourages people from applying and therefore these organisations receive less or no applications at all from these groups. people don’t really understand these policies. I worked in the EC and realised that these policies also make room in percentages and proportions for minority groups, but we hardly got any applications from them. I suppose because of the preconceived idea that they won’t even be considered anyway.

People tend to run away from the fact that academics will put you in a better position irrespective of the race. But in Cape Town in particular coloureds folks don't enrol to tertiary education (not all but majority).

Great analysis, and you see other stats where coloureds also stayed still. The greatest changes have been the rise of Black people.

my question is ....why do we still accept that racist identity, given to us by a Racist apartheid regime?......when we all know that....sorry for this who don't know.that the identity ”coloured”was only given to us with indoctrination,to separate us from our black bothers & sisters...but when the English were in control...we were known as black.Never was there the word coloured until apartheid arived

Let’s take a look at the poverty rates across races in the province and not a myopic look at management positions in government

very good and valid point. on the flipside. going by that logic though is makes so much sense. it would have meant that most coloured people from other provinces would be migrating to the western cape to look for promotions and better opportunities. that would then mean a continuation of the group areas act

Very good question. Very interesting. Regional criteria makes sense. But what about whites moving with their resources to the Cape and creating a sort of lager for themselves. Also, what about the extent to which the DA has become coloured - like Plumstead, where I live?
