I hated pink because I wanted to be as capable as the boys. i wanted to be respected like them. i wanted to be independent like them, I wanted to play rough like them, I wanted to be able to sit without being told "that's not very lady like" like them, it was never about the color pink, it was about how it always felt it was associated with being l helpless and ladylike.

My favorite color was blue because I liked the Smurfs. Later I found out it was "for boys," and I liked it even more. My grandmother used to force me to be very feminine, and I wasn't exactly that. I didn't know how to explain that it wasn't that I didn't like pink, I was fascinated by it. But I didn't want It imposed on me. I think we can all be more than blue or pink.
