@genericartdad: American Eagle pulled the most controversial ad, but the whole “Sydney Sweeney Has Good Jeans” campaign is a bit icky for a few reasons. That said, I’ve seen some real stretching from people on this one.

As a leftist, the far left is becoming as conspiracy theory prone as the far right. Impact is one thing, intent is another. People are completely valid to feel icky and dislike the ads, but to say that AE is intentionally pushing a eugenics propaganda campaign seems.. a little silly

I’m a creative strategist with 15 yrs in marketing. This went thru rounds and rounds of edits before the script and storyboard was locked. It’s all very intentional

If they don’t mean it like that, they would have pulled the commercials and apologized by now. 🤷‍♀️

One of the things I find myself consistently appreciating about your content is that I'm initially unsure which of the two characters you intended to be the "rube", until I realize it's neither of them, and you are trying to have an actually nuanced discussion

I love this video because it really shows both sides of the argument in a logical and methodical way.

To be abundantly clear. I think i could have chosen a few words better. The point of the video is about the public’s perception of it and the perception of our criticism of it. This campaign was 100% intentional because different people will interpret it differently. It will spark controversy. By claiming the situation is black and white, we’re ignoring the whole concept of the campaign. People keep commenting, in this climate they knew what they were doing. They did. But claiming that means everyone else who saw it should have the same takeaway, is where we start to feed the narrative we’re out of touch.

This, this was the point. The discussion, the controversy. They still maintain plaisible deniability and they get a ton of publicity. It’s a marketing stunt. The scary part is that they felt this was an appropriate marketing stunt.

And if it wasn't the case, American Eagle would have spoken out against it by now. America is becoming exactly what we fought to destroy.

Except that American Eagle hasn't walked this back at all and you're forgetting that they specifically used Sydney for the ad bc of the groyper obsession with her online. This was all very intentional and it's paying off for them

In Marketing - there are NO coincidences. Marketing campaigns are highly organized, structured and contain multiple review and approval processes. This was meant exactly what it was trying to do - market the idea of 🐑ugenics. This was not an ‘oops’, you didn’t read the message wrong. This was about getting all eyes on AE - and from a 💵 perspective, which IS the bottom line - it succeeded.

To my fellow left leaning people, this is an echo chamber. The real, non-online humans I’ve talked about this in the past week overwhelmingly see this as an overreaction (about 80/20 left-leaning vs. right leaning). We need numbers people and this makes the left look overly sensitive and out of touch with normal people who don’t think about politics all the time. I want to win elections; this is not the hill to die on

I agree that the term "blue genes" isn't meant to be any negative. However, picking a white, blonde, blue eyed actress does feel a bit weird when we're talking about genes
