i think they were planning on doing it to all fontain characters, simularly to what they did to natlanese ones, becouse almost all of them mess with their hp in some way, they just lacked direction...

Then we have craftable weapons that inflict Bond of Life on the user. Its a fascinating concept that unfortunately wasn't taken anywhere. Especially since all its users released in the latter half of Fontaine, right before Night soul took the spotlight.
