theatre is DEAD, like DEADDDD, so much focus goes onto “what extremely talented and super famous singer can we get in our cast this time” for high end productions, for lower end its all just pyramid schemes. Rocky Horror is a beautiful example of it, its charm came from its cheap and raunchy aesthetics and that has quite literally been ERASED - and now the exact same is happening to Cabaret too.

THIS. especially in this song, FOCUS ON ACTING rather than singing pretty. if your voice cracks, go with it. if you hit a wrong note, go with it. that adds more emotion to the song.

the song is more powerful when you're feeling the song instead of trying to show off your vocal prowess.

any time I sing a song I primarily focus on CONVEYING the overall message/emotion of the song than the actual singing. you don’t always have to sound pretty 🙏

who said that was unpopular?? i hate when people add riffs into the song, it’s selfish and takes away from sally as a character

Okey but here me out👀 riffing in musicals is almost always completely inappropriate…it takes away from the acting/doesn’t fit the character and often ruins the emotion🥸

echo piocone is extremely talented but it gets to a point where the original song is completely clouded by excessive riffs

I find it more powerful without all the riffs and stuff. it feels more raw and vulnerable

Echo picone is an exceptional singer but she really abuses the riffs and it sometimes takes away from the meaning of the songs she sings

hear me out - this musical (and most musicals in general) are turning into a part of a modern theater space where social media and marketing towards a larger audience is replacing the commentary on the human experience that theater shows through acting. I like to think that songs were popularized in theater because they can convey more emotion than words, and immerse the viewer more fully in the world that is being portrayed. trading emotion for spectacle, while it can be fun for a while, is one of the reasons so many creative outputs are not “hitting the mark” at least for me

probably another unpopular opinion but this song is also more powerful going softer at the end rather than belting it especially as the rest of the song is really belty
