As a former teacher…. These are the same people who will complain about the classroom not being decorated to the max, not realizing the teacher pays for it all! The government funded classroom is desks, computers, teacher desk, filing cabinet. I literally spent over $500 each year on school supplies and things for the room because parents didn’t buy. I had to be 24 of everything. And I would have to do it again at Christmas cuz the kids would steal it

Ours are very standard things - pens, highlighters, notebooks, folders, markers, wired headphones, and a few suggested extras like Kleenex and hand sanitizer. 🤷🏼♀️

I was at WM a few days ago and their stuff is super cheap right now. You can buy some of the cheaper brands for their personal stuff and be able to buy the preferred brand of the teacher.
Notebooks for 40 cents, folders for 15 cents, crayons-Crayola 24 pk for 50 cents.

Ours is about $100 per kiddo and its a full typewritten page long. We buy it all, but I recognize that it's a lot for some families. The only time I've had an issue with community supplies is when it's something like a binder. My middle kid is rough on school supplies and if I pay extra to get a sturdier item that he won't break as easily, I just want him to get to use that one instead of the less sturdy one someone else brings that he'll break in two weeks.

Because of Tik Tok, not only am I buying these supplies, I'm giving the teachers Walmart gift cards to help ease their burden.

It's wild! I'll give my daughters teachers whatever they wants. You need $20 for lab supplies, okay here's $50!

I am just so grateful that my kid gets to go somewhere, make friends, learn things, do crafts, get speech therapy, and eat two meals for free and all I have to do is send him in with a backpack full of school supplies on the first day. Like maybe my school tax should cover supplies but they don't. Also why are you sending your kids to school at all if you don't see the value of school or trust that their teacher knows how to run their classroom efficiently? Homeschool and see how much you spend then 👀

I’m a high school teacher and all I ask of my students is literally a folder, pencils and each student carries that themselves and parents will still not buy it. I have already spent $100 on supplies.

Our lists are so minimal. I was struggling last year financially and was still able to get the crayola brand markers. This year I hope to give a few gift cards out to the teachers so they can get extra.

My son is only 19 months so out of curiosity I added the Kindergarten list for our public elementary AND the private school we are considering to my Target cart online. Both lists combine were less than $200 and that included duplicates of NAME BRAND items.

I sponsored a 4th grader in my area. Minus backpack and headphones, it took around $27 to supply it, or $3/mo (the price of a Taco Bell Chicken Cantina taco) over the course of a school year. Most of this is less than $1 at Walmart/Target.
