Unfortunately very true. I was chief at a 3T site and made every patient and their guest change. No exceptions. We had 25 pts M-F and at least 20 on Sat and Sun. Can’t control what other techs would do when I wasn’t on shift, but warned them of the dangers. The place I’m at now, 🤯. They rarely change patients. 1.5T. WTF. Just horrific.

Most hospitals I’ve worked at make you change for MRI. It’s a safety thing.

So every MRI facility doesn’t have a patient coordinator team to change the patients?

Rural MRI, 1 tech on an old GE scanner and the “rush” is that you are suppose to do other modalities too. I came from a larger hospital and thought it was totally crazy but there was no policy… that tech was not ARRT registered either and still isn’t

We change all patients. Not only clothing material is a threat but patients have things hidden in bra, socks and pants.

I can see them doing 7 patients if they are long scans. 45 minutes each. Changing in between, changing the bed out to the equipment needed for next patient etc for an 8 hr day. But I have always been changed, no jewelry and a locker given with a key to out my belongings in

My old employer crammed spines without into 15 minute time spots. No way we had to.e to change anyone. They cared about $$$ not safety or policies.

I am doing an externship at an outpatient imaging center. They don’t require most patients to change but we do have a high volume of patients including double bookings . There’s has been many items that have gone into the machine needless to say

I’ve never had to fully change, but 1 place had me remove my bra. I purposely went and bought a pull over no metal anywhere Barlette to wear for my last MRIs.

We do 42 patients a day. Booked every 30 mins and we are required to change patients completely, including underwear. If they refuse to change we are instructed not to continue with the MRI
