Oooh that’s the clinical language for what I’ve been trying to explain to therapists and others for years. “I know it intellectually but the feeling is still there.” I have to have real experience to overwrite and positivite overwrites are more difficult than negative ones.

Genuine question: how is this not simply just reframing the way you think about the experiences you're already having?

I finally noticed how when I crossed a big item off my list I didn't feel any difference 😭 I'm trying to practice feeling good but it's not easy

This was so enlightening and explains so much about the last year of my life (as I’ve had so many new experiences). Thank you for this explanation

It's hard to remember to pat yourself on the back, roomie and I started telling each other what a good job the other did if they accomplished something like a chore. Helped me, hope it can help someone else. ❤️

Healing is my side hustle :
I explained this today to a client. When you have years of bad experiences, your mind begins to expect them and makes them into rules. In order to break this thought process or rules the exact opposite needs to happen where you have a prolonged period of time where you experience a whole bunch of good things that essentially prove your negative thought patterns wrong.

The thing is some of my biggest fears were proven right in the past and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to come to terms with them no matter how much therapy I do

Isn’t that what synchronicities are? Your brain recognizing that good things are happening and looking for patterns externally to validate that you are supposed to be where you are

Unfortunately I seem to just have even worse experiences the more I try to get out of my shell confirming people are scary and not to be trusted 😂

I see how much praise helps my clients build their self esteem and confidence in themselves. I confront them when they try to minimize "little" achievements and ask them to reframe. 😏
