@chrismarrone_: Here’s the breakdown: $66/hr x 40hrs is $2640/week A mortgage on a $420,000 home (which is avg home price) would be around $2600/month If ppl say housing should be only about 1/4 your monthly income then thats on track with a single income (not accounting taxes) #us #economy #minimumwage
I make a fifth of that and it’s somehow still $5 above minimum wage.

the best part is, the boomers economy was so great because they taxed the rich fairly

To all the people saying "minimum wage isn't meant to be enough to live off" Minimum wage was originally called a 'Living Wage'. It was meant to be enough to pay off your mortgage and support your partner and two kids COMFORTABLY. They changed the name so that we'd forget this. Now it's barely enough to rent an apartment and support yourself. and definitely not enough for a partner and kids.

Im 38. High school graduate Senior IT Specialist now. Living in South Louisiana I make 44 an hour. My wife she makes 24 an hour as clerk of court. All I can say is stop blaming older generations. Get out there and do something that nets you the income you want. I dont find this as difficult a concept as everyone makes it out to be. So what if they had it easier? Thats the past this is the present and tomorrow is the future. Move out of expensive cities. Go get a labor job or a skilled trade job work up to the money. College was the biggest scam my generation was ever sold. I knew that and probably everyone else did too. Student loans and getting a degree in doing what exactly? It doesn't apply to the work force where experience matters.

The minimum wage in 1970 was 1.45 which was 3016 per year without taxes removed. People were buying homes and having families with less then 3000$ per household.

During the Great Depression, one week of work averaged out to be $27. This was devastating, because a MONTH of rent was $28. People had it better during the Great Depression than we have it today.

Plus you need to have a high credit score and a 10% down payment that’s needed to be in your bank account for at least 30 days. But yeah, I’ll stop buying avocados for my breakfast sandwiches, Barb.
